Buying a diamond can be very challenging. For example, there are 21 grades of color, from colorless to yellow. There are 11 grades of clarity, from flawless to imperfect. This presents 231 possible grades before the quality of the cutting is even considered. Learning about the four well-known Cs - cut, color, clarity and carat weight - will take the mystery out of making your selection.

The cut is the most critical factor in releasing the diamonds "fire" and "brilliance", it may very well be the most important of the four Cs in determining the beauty and value of a diamond.
Diamond clarity is determined by the absence of these inclusions. The fewer the inclusions, the rarer the diamond, and the greater the value. Flawless and internally flawless diamonds are exceedingly rare.
Although most gem-quality diamonds, when seen alone, appear
colorless to the untrained eye, there are subtle differences in shade that
become apparent to a trained professional.
Our diamonds are color graded in our Gem Laboratory, using
a special diamond light developed for color grading, or they have been color
graded by the Gemological Institute of America.
Of the 4Cs, carat weight is the simplest factor to determine in the value of a diamond. As with all precious gems, the weight of a diamond is expressed in carats. One carat equals one-fifth of a gram, or 1/142 of an ounce. One carat is also divided into 100 "points", so a diamond weighing carat may be described as weighing 75 points, or .75 carats.
